Top 3 Tips for Great Logo Design

A good logo conveys your brand’s identity, creates a positive first impression among consumers, and sets you apart from the competition. But what makes a good logo good?

  • Relevance

First and foremost, a good logo reflects its brand. Every aspect of it, including typeface, colour scheme, and overall content, should match what your business is about and what your customers expect from you.

If you run a technology company, for instance, you could choose a simple illustration (think Apple). Or, if you sell luxury goods, you might go for a cursive typeface. However, every business is unique, so there are no hard and fast rules here: what works for other brands in your industry may not necessarily be the right fit for you.

  • Simplicity

What is a hard and fast rule, however, is simplicity. A simple logo design will keep the viewer’s attention focused, whereas more intricate designs will pull their attention in too many directions. As logos are glanced at rather than closely examined, simpler designs will be more immediately memorable and efficiently convey your brand’s identity.

  • Versatility

Simplicity will also contribute to another important design feature: versatility. Your logo will show up in a slew of marketing collateral, from business cards to videos to billboards, making it vital to choose a design that will work across various platforms.

So along with a scalable file type (we strongly recommend a vector to avoid pixelation), be sure to select a scalable design: one that will be perfectly legible from afar and when shrunk down.

And most importantly, you should never compromise on the design. If you feel logo-making is out of your wheelhouse, our team of design experts will be happy to help.
