OUTSOURCING TO A WEB DESIGN COMPANY: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Outsourcing web design to a 3rd party agency can be a daunting prospect when you don’t know what you’re getting into.

So, here’s our breakdown of how web design companies work to get you more acquainted (and comfortable) with the process. 

The team

The first thing you should know is the makeup of the team. For a typical web design project, you can expect it to be handled by: 

  • A UX/UI designer who will be designing the site’s layout 
  • A UX writer, who will be writing the copy 
  • A project manager
  • And if you want to outsource the development itself, a front-end and a back-end developer.

The process: 

The web design process begins with the concept. At this stage, we’ll have a meeting in which you’ll tell us about your brand (including brand voice, visual style, and what you do), and we’ll inform you about our design process.

Based on the meeting and further research, we will present you with a proposal to hash out what your website aims to achieve and how it will convey your message. 

Then comes the wireframe. The wireframe is a visual document that incorporates all text and design elements to show how the website will work and look page by page. During this stage, the designer and writer work in tandem to ensure no wires are crossed and that your message conveys perfectly. 

And once we finish our first run at the wireframe, we’ll send it to you for approval. If everything checks out, you can pass it over to a web developer. If not, we’ll revise it. 

The legals: 

During various stages of the process, we’ll also discuss relevant legal details with you. These may involve:

  • Signing an NDA at the start of the process to protect your intellectual property 
  • Obtaining licensing for any third party imagery you want to use 
  • And discussing any relevant patent and/or copyright details
